During the first days after the procedure, many people notice their face swelling. The swelling starts up at the hairline and can move down toward the forehead, sometimes all the way to the eyes. It looks worse than it feels.
This is common and a natural part of the body's response to the procedure. The swelling goes away on its own, usually within a few days. You can read more about what to expect day by day in our walkthrough of the first seven days.
What is lymphatic massage?
Lymphatic massage is a soft technique that helps the fluid in your face move in the right direction, toward the glands behind the ears and on down the neck. It is not about pressure. The stroke should be light and soft, almost like a caress.
The technique is simple. Start in the middle of the face and draw outward toward the ears. Then continue downward along the neck. Repeat calmly a few times on each side.
One minute a day
With the NEXO Borste it takes about a minute, morning or evening. The brush is designed for exactly this movement: light, soft strokes from the middle of the face out toward the ears and on down the neck.
During the days of swelling, evening works well, just before bed. Many people like to sleep with their head slightly raised the first nights. It is a simple way to keep the swelling in the face for a shorter time.
When do you start?
Always follow your clinic's own instructions first. Many clinics, including Hair TP Clinic, approve light lymphatic massage of the face from 24 hours onward, but their word is what counts for you. Never touch the transplanted area itself until you have been given the all clear.
Two more simple things help during the days of swelling: drink plenty of water and move around lightly. A cold compress on the forehead, never on the area, can feel nice for ten minutes at a time. Always place a thin cloth between the compress and the skin.
Once you have the green light, lymphatic massage is something many people turn into a habit. The brush takes up little space and the routine is over in a minute.
Long after the aftercare
Something we often hear is that the technique stays in everyday life. Many use the brush for morning puffiness, after travel, or when the face feels swollen after a short night. Same movement, same minute.
That is how NEXO is meant to work. Products that do their job during the aftercare and keep doing it long after. If you want to see how the brush fits into the full routine, it comes in The Ritual, together with shampoo, spray and cream.
For an overview of the whole aftercare period, week by week, we have gathered it in the article about aftercare week by week. There you will find when washing, exercise and sauna usually become relevant again, always with your clinic's instructions as the basis.
